Workflow: when to use a marketplace creator vs your own AI model

Two ways to put your garment on a person in Apiway: pick a preset AI model in White Studio, or rent a real creator photo set on the Marketplace. Here is the decision rule per use case — catalog, lifestyle, ads, lookbook — including the legal/licensing implications.

Two ways to put your garment on a person in Apiway: preset AI model (built into White Studio) or marketplace creator (Styled Photoset or White Studio with avatar). They have different cost, different vibe, and different legal trail. Here is the decision rule per use case.

Catalog / PDP / Amazon main

  • Use preset AI model in White Studio. Cheapest, fastest, and these surfaces want a clean studio look, not UGC.
  • For brand consistency across SKUs, lock the same preset model throughout the collection.

Lifestyle PDP / on-location feel

  • Use marketplace creator via Styled Photoset. Real environments, real models read more believable than AI backdrops.

Ads (Meta, TikTok, Pinterest)

  • Use marketplace creator. Platforms reward UGC-feeling ads, especially TikTok. Studio creative underperforms creator-style imagery on Spark Ads.
  • Picking 2–3 different creators per ad set lets you A/B test demographic fit fast.

Lookbook / brand book

  • Mix both. Catalog spine on a preset / avatar (consistent), lifestyle alts on marketplace creators (variety).

Apiway preset models are licensed for commercial use on every plan. Marketplace creators are also licensed (the photographer certified the model release; the model is a paid co-author). Both are safe. Random Pinterest / Instagram photos you upload yourself are NOT safe — see Why you should not upload random Pinterest photos.

Cost comparison

  • Preset AI model: standard generation cost only.
  • Marketplace avatar / photo set: standard cost + creator pool surcharge (paid to the photographer/co-authors). Typically +5–25 credits per generation depending on the listing.
