Pull the result into Photoshop, sample the corner pixel, and read the colour value. It will not be #FFFFFF. It will be #F4F4F4 or #ECECEC or #E8E9EA. Grey, every time, on every model. Why image LLMs cannot deliver true #FFFFFF
Image generation models are trained on photographs. Photographs of product backdrops are almost never literally pure white. Real studio cyclorama walls reflect at around 95% albedo, real seamless paper catches a tiny gradient from the lights, and real digital cameras record some level of noise even on the brightest patch. The training distribution simply does not contain many true #FFFFFF backgrounds.
Diffusion models reproduce statistical likelihoods. They have learned that what humans call “a white background” is, in their training data, a slightly textured, slightly off-white surface. So that is what they paint — even when you scream RGB 255/255/255 at them in the prompt.

- ChatGPT (DALL·E 3 / GPT‑Image): typical corner samples land between #F0F0F0 and #ECECEC. Stronger prompt-engineering shifts the average up by maybe two or three points and never reaches 255.
- Google Gemini (general image generation): corner samples in the #F4F4F4 to #EFEFEF range, with a slight warm cast on portrait-mode outputs. Same #FFFFFF prompt, same off-white result.
- Nano Banana (Gemini 2.5 Flash Image): this is the model most fashion brands actually use right now because its garment fidelity, identity consistency, and prompt adherence are the strongest in the category. It is a genuine step change for fashion. But on the pure-white question, even Nano Banana lands at #F2F2F2 to #ECECEC. Better than the older models on every other axis — equally unable to deliver true #FFFFFF.
The takeaway is not “use a different model” — there isn't one that solves it at the prompt layer. The takeaway is that pure white is a post-processing problem, not a generation problem, and any production fashion-AI tool needs to handle it after the model finishes its pass.
Why grey fails on marketplaces
