How does the background removal tool work?

The tool uses the open-source ISNet segmentation model, compiled to WebAssembly and shipped to the browser. When you drop a photo, the model identifies the foreground subject (clothing, model, product, accessory) and outputs a transparent-background PNG. The first time you use the tool, the browser downloads ~40 MB of model weights — after that they’re cached, so subsequent cutouts are instant.

Because everything runs locally, your photos never reach Apiway’s servers. We don’t see the file, the cutout, or the filename. There’s no rate limit and no metering — you can run it on a hundred SKUs in a row.
